THE IMPACT OF THE RAILROAD
PRE AND POST IRON HORSE
The arrival of the railroad changed the way of Westward land. These railroads were a convenience for the public, however through direct funding from the federal government. It fully connected the West to the East, completing Manifest Destiny, and migration was much easier accessed. Before the development of the railroad, travelers had to get by stage coach, which was expensive, uneffeicient, and could take over 6 months. WIth the railroad, they could get there in 5 days or less for the convienient price of only 150 dollars. These benefits had a much bigger advantage than the previous means of transportation and made traveling much easier. However beneficial the railroad was for production and growth of a new market, and transportation, olthers disagreed that it was very expensive and corrupted the use of agriculture while creating disputes between who regulated the commerce for this new facility, the state, the government, or the company itself. |
